Module for Packaging Market Development Involving Agro-trade Value Chain Actors (SwisscontactKatalyst)

The module developed for the “Packaging Market Development Involving Agro-Trade Value Chain Actors” project—implemented for Swisscontact–Katalyst—was designed as a comprehensive capacity-building tool to upgrade post-harvest handling and packaging practices across Bangladesh’s agro-trade sector. Built on an in-depth, research-driven assessment of current packaging capabilities for fruits and vegetables, fish, and flowers, the module offers practical guidance, techniques, and standardized procedures tailored to farmers and value chain actors.

Drawing from an extensive database of agro-entrepreneurs across 23 districts, the module integrates step-by-step packaging methods, quality control measures, market compliance insights, and cost-efficient post-harvest solutions. It was used to train 240 participants from CDCS®’s partner organizations, who subsequently cascaded the training to over 65,000 farmers and VCAs—30,738 of whom were women. The module ultimately contributed to improving product quality, reducing post-harvest losses, and strengthening the competitiveness of local agribusinesses nationwide.
