Mango Intercropping Manual (USAID / DAI, Bangladesh Agricultural Value Chains (AVC)

CDCS® played a pivotal role in promoting sustainable agricultural practices through the development of a specialized training manual on intercropping in mango orchards under the USAID-funded Agricultural Value Chains (AVC) Project. Recognizing the dual need to enhance farmer incomes and improve soil health, CDCS® designed this resource to support one of the most impactful and widely adopted practices among mango growers in Bangladesh.

The training manual offers practical, field-tested guidance on intercropping techniques using crops such as turmeric, ginger, chili, and leafy vegetables, which can be cultivated between mango trees without harming orchard productivity. By integrating these high-value intercrops, farmers are able to maximize land use efficiency, diversify income sources, and replenish soil nutrients—all while maintaining the health and yield of their mango orchards.

Through this initiative, CDCS® has contributed significantly to building farmer capacity, promoting agroecological sustainability, and aligning smallholder practices with market-driven agricultural development strategies. The manual continues to serve as a key reference for extension agents, NGOs, and farmers seeking to adopt resilient, income-enhancing intercropping systems.
