At the Roundtable Conference on Green Investment Opportunities and Challenges for Entrepreneurs, held in November 2016 in Dhaka and jointly organized by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, a forward-thinking paper titled “Green Investment, Greening Investment: A Sustainable Market Ecosystem Perspective” was presented. The paper examined the critical role of green investment in transitioning Bangladesh’s economy toward sustainability, focusing on how environmentally responsible financing can create a market ecosystem that supports both profitability and ecological stewardship. Through the lens of market systems development, the study analyzed policy frameworks, institutional readiness, and investor behavior in fostering low-carbon, resource-efficient enterprises. It emphasized the need for ecosystem-wide collaboration among policymakers, financial institutions, entrepreneurs, and development actors to align capital flows with sustainability objectives. Key recommendations included incentives for green innovation, integration of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) criteria into investment decisions, and strengthening regulatory mechanisms to de-risk green ventures. The presentation sparked productive dialogue among business leaders and policymakers, reinforcing the urgency of embedding sustainability into the heart of investment strategies and positioning green finance as a catalyst for long-term, inclusive growth in Bangladesh.
