At the International Conference on Management of Innovation and Sustainability: Vision 2041, held in 2020 at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, a cutting-edge research paper titled “An Analysis of the Energy and Environmental Efficiency of the Industrial Sectors of Bangladesh Using DEA and Malmquist Productivity Index” was presented, offering a data-driven perspective on sustainable industrial development in Bangladesh. The study employed advanced analytical tools—Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and the Malmquist Productivity Index—to evaluate the dynamic performance of key industrial sectors in terms of energy efficiency and environmental impact over time. As a forward-looking contribution to Bangladesh’s Vision 2041, the research identified critical inefficiencies in energy use and emission control, while also highlighting sectors demonstrating improvements in technological and operational productivity. The presentation underscored the importance of integrating environmental performance metrics into industrial policy and investment decision-making, advocating for cleaner production methods, energy-efficient technologies, and regulatory incentives for green innovation. By bridging the gap between quantitative assessment and policy relevance, the study offered valuable insights for stakeholders seeking to balance industrial growth with environmental sustainability, aligning closely with national and global climate and development goals.
