Under the UKaid/DFID, SDC, and DANIDA-supported Swisscontact KATALYST program, CDCS® conducted an in-depth assessment of the forward market value chains for fish, vegetables, and maize in Bangladesh, focusing on strengthening farmer-market integration and improving rural earning potential.
The study delivered a comprehensive analysis of downstream market dynamics, revealing structural inefficiencies, limited bargaining power, and inadequate infrastructure as key barriers to income growth for smallholder producers.
CDCS® provided actionable recommendations including strengthened aggregation models, inclusive procurement and contract farming practices, enhanced storage and logistics systems, and the adoption of digital and direct marketing platforms. These insights informed market-oriented development strategies, enabling farmers to capture greater value, improve income stability, and contribute to stronger rural economic growth.
